A small letter from Holland
Stories from two homes...
After a long, turbulent and very rainy 1,300-kilometre drive, I arrived in the Netherlands late last night.
And before I could even catch my breath, there they were: my granddaughters, my daughter and my son-in-law — visiting to welcome me home.
Lois, my eldest granddaughter, took me by the hand to dance.
And suddenly I felt it again: no matter how deeply I love France, the Mediterranean, and my boat… I always miss my three daughters, my granddaughters, and my son(-in-law).
They call it the expat disease:
when I’m here, I want to be there;
when I’m there, I want to be here.
Two places I love, and never fully “at home” in either.
But tonight their love overwhelmed me.
For a moment everything was simple.
God, it is good to be with them.
